See One of Branson’s Finest: The Doug Gabriel Show

Doug GabrielThis week I had the opportunity to experience the Doug Gabriel Show and I definitely wasn’t prepared for the high-energy performance this cast provided.

This show is absolutely packed with great music, family-friendly humor and one group of very talented musicians. With a variety of music and fast paced transitions, this show appeals to all ages so bring your kids, parents, grandparents, mother-in-law and whoever else you can grab.

The entire Gabriel family performs throughout the show, featuring Doug’s wife, a wonderful vocalist, two of his sons who are incredible percussionists and his 16-year-old daughter, a very talented up-and-coming vocalist who clearly has a lot of potential. Together, they create an exciting and contagious family charisma that will keep your eyes glued to the stage from start to finish.

The show I saw this Monday was a half and half mixture of the regular Doug Gabriel show and their family Christmas production. The first half featured many of the songs you’ll see performed throughout the regular season and the second half was absolutely dripping with holiday cheer. One aspect of the show that was particularly great and refreshing was the reading of the Christmas story from the Bible. I hadn’t seen that in a Branson show before and I’m glad they included it.

Doug GabrielOverall, my favorite part of the show had to be the “car tune” featuring a comical and fascinating array of instruments made with car parts — the centerpiece being Doug’s 1969 Thunderbird “Mufftar.” Interestingly enough, the group’s rendition of Dueling Banjos (car parts in all) was the best I’ve ever heard.

Of course, I can’t fail to mention “Flying J,” one of Doug’s overly-enthusiastic drumming sons who is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire show with his hilarious antics. When he comes out onstage you can never really be quite sure of what he’s about to do so prepare yourself! His silliness reminded me a lot of my own brothers and I’m sure once you see the Gabriel family’s Flying J, you’ll realize your family has its very own Flying J too!

The Doug Gabriel show is a great reminder of the quality, family entertainment Branson provides and it’s definitely one of those must-see shows. So add it to the top of your must-see list and stop by the Doug Gabriel Theatre next time you’re in town for a fast-paced incredible production that you’ll remember for years to come.

And don’t forget, Doug Gabriel also has his very own New Year’s Eve Show featuring his talented family and all the works including drawings, party favors, cake and a live countdown!

Experience the Unbelievable with Hamners’ Christmas Variety Show

On Saturday I went to see Hamners’ Unbelievable Variety Christmas Show and was highly entertained.

These talented performers definitely have the definition of “variety” down to a science because every time the curtain closed and opened again, I had no idea what kind of act I was in for next.

Although it’s a Christmas show, don’t expect to see all the holiday trimmings right away — the first half is the best of Hamners’ unbelievable variety from the year round show.

You’ll experience a bit of everything from ventriloquism and acrobatics to incredible vocal performances, magic, comedy and illusions. I was blown away by the things these performers were doing. I kept trying to figure out the magic tricks, but to no avail. Nevertheless, one particular magic act was centered around birds. The magician kept pulling bird after bird out of a simple cloth. It was incredible. And these were real birds, by the way. Several of them even flew across the audience directly overhead which made for an awe-inspiring, extraordinary experience.

I also really enjoyed the ventriloquist. She has perfected her craft so well that at times, it’s difficult to remember the doll isn’t really the one doing the talking. I can’t imagine how much time and practice it takes to actually make that act believable.

The acrobatics had to be my favorite part of the show though. The show features a Russian duo that perform some jaw-dropping feats of strength and agility. You’ll be amazed by all that they can do!

The second half of the show was starkly different with creative holiday sets, festive costumes and of course, Christmas music! It was a lot of fun and I could tell the performers were having a blast as well. Although the second half is purely a Christmas celebration, it still featured that unstoppable variety that keeps this fast paced show interesting.

At Hamners’ Unbelievable Variety Christmas show, you’ll find yourself believing the unbelievable, so don’t miss out! Click here for tickets or more information.

Hamners’ Variety Theater is at 3090 Shepherd of the Hills Expressway in Branson, just down the street from the Shoji Tabuchi Theater.
