Delve into the Life and Music of John Denver

This week in Branson I went to see Rocky Mountain High! A Tribute to John Denver at the Branson IMAX Entertainment Complex and truly had no idea what I was in for.

The tribute show starring talented musician James Garrett features many of John Denver’s biggest hits including “Rocky Mountain High,” “Annie’s Song,” “Back Home Again,” “Sunshine on My Shoulders” and many many more.

I must admit, John Denver was a bit before my time but I still recognized several of the songs and as I looked around the theater, everyone seemed to be having a great time singing and clapping along to every single song.

One of the neatest aspects of the show is that James Garrett was actually close friends with Denver so he shares a lot of personal stories about his life experiences and motivations behind many of his biggest hits. It was interesting to hear those stories and get a glimpse into the personal life of John Denver while enjoying his beautiful folk music.

The cast of five were all incredibly talented musicians and it was obvious they really enjoy performing. One gentleman was an incredible fiddler and could play everything from Beethoven to Ozarks folk music. HeĀ even pulled out an authentic Ozarks dulcimer and went to town! It was a great display of fantastic musicianship that can only come with years of dedication and practice.

The Rocky Mountain High tribute show to John Denver is great for those who love the music of John Denver or those who want to learn a little bit more about his personal life. James Garrett is one of the most personable entertainers I’ve encountered in Branson and he would love to talk with you and get to know you after the show.

I highly recommend this show for John Denver fans so check it out if you get the chance!

Rocky Mountain High! A Tribute to John Denver plays at The Little Opry Theatre at the Branson IMAX. The IMAX is at 3562 Shepherd of the Hills Expwy., just a quarter of a mile from the RFD-TV Theatre.

  1. My father really likes John Denver… I’ll have to tell him about this show. I’m not the biggest fan myself, though he does have some good songs!
