Historic Downtown Branson is by far one of my favorite areas in town because no matter how many times I go there, I always manage to find something new to explore.
This past week, I stumbled upon a fantastic little store on Main Street called The Spice Agent. Curious, I took a step inside and my nose was immediately overwhelmed with all different kinds of aromas.
The wooden shelves along the walls were topped with dozens of glass jars that contained every kind of cooking spice you could think of. Each jar was neatly labeled with a description that detailed its ingredients and uses and I eagerly browsed the wide variety of cinnamon, pepper, paprika, ginger, garlic and BBQ rubs trying to imagine all of the meals that could be enhanced with them.
The Spice Agent showcased more than just jars of spices though — tables throughout the shop were neatly arranged to feature flavorful teas, dried mushrooms, extracts and oils, honey and agave, dried chile peppers, chili mixes, kitchen accessories and beautiful salt and pepper mills.
While exploring the store, I talked with the owner and cook, Chris Poulos. He creates his own mixes in house to ensure the best quality and freshest ingredients and he is eager to offer advice on how to use his products. He is the only one who works at the shop, so you are guaranteed to run into him if you stop by. And running into him is a good thing, especially if you’re looking for a specialty item that’s difficult to find. If you can’t find it at The Spice Agent, just let him know and he will find a way to get it for you.
After a short visit with him, I quickly realized that he designed his store for the average, every day cook by providing simple, all natural ingredients to make easy dishes taste absolutely phenomenal. You don’t have to be intimidated by the large variety of products or think that you must be a fantastic cook in order to utilize them to get your money’s worth, because the opposite couldn’t be more true.
This is the perfect place for the every day cook to find fresh spices at a fair price, so make sure to stop by next time you’re in downtown Branson.
The Spice Agent is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and is located at 105 E. Main Street, Branson MO 65616, right next door to the Classy Flea.
