Food Friday: Danna’s Bar-B-Que and Burger Shop

Danna's BBQWorking on the 4th of July holiday can hardly be called “working” when you set out to review a restaurant as delicious as Danna’s Bar-B-Que and Burger Shop.

Naturally, the 4th of July requires that you partake in some kind of bar-b-que deliciousness and if you’re in the Branson area next year on the 4th of July (or at any point), Danna’s is most definitely the place you want to be for some of the best tasting bar-b-que.

I’ll be completely honest with you — I’m not a huge bar-b-que fan, so when I pulled into the parking lot of the small, unassuming restaurant, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I should have known right off the bat that this place is a gem because when I walked in the door the line to order was clear to the back of the restaurant. I shuffled my feet all the way to the last person in line and waited, while looking around at the tables in the dining area.

Danna's BBQEveryone seemed to be enjoying their time at Danna’s and many of the tables were filled with rowdy families, not bothered by the bar-b-que sauce on their fingers or the close quarters.

An elderly woman stepped in line behind me and asked me how I was doing. I responded, letting her know I was doing great but was a bit hungry. I asked her if she had ever been to Danna’s Bar-B-Que and Burger Shop and she responded enthusiastically, saying she and her husband had a second home in Branson and Danna’s was their go-to restaurant every time they were in town.

The line moved much quicker than I anticipated and in less than 20 minutes I was two customers away from the register, still trying to decide what I wanted to try off the extensive menu of stuffed baked potatoes, BBQ quesadillas, ribs, catfish, burgers and salads.Danna's BBQ

The woman behind me must have noticed my inward struggle because she nudged me and said “Try the pulled pork. You won’t be sorry.” I looked at her, still smiling and winking at me, and decided she probably knew what she was talking about. When I got to the counter, I order the pulled pork sandwich and took my table number to my seat.

My food was served incredibly quickly for how busy the place was. I don’t think I waited longer than five minutes and I was happy to discover that my sandwich was still hot and fresh when it reached me.

The pulled pork sandwich came without any BBQ sauce on it, but each table had two bottles of sauce atop it; one mild and one hot. I grabbed the mild one and applied a generous amount to my sandwich.

Danna's BBQFrom the very first, messy bite I was hooked. Danna’s has the best pulled pork I’ve ever tasted! It’s melt-in-your-mouth goodness is something to be savored and the sweet BBQ sauce only adds to its tastiness. The sandwich came with French fries, coleslaw and a hot Memphis Roll which has a large dab of butter in the center that melts and covers the bread in yummy, buttery goodness. The French fries were anything but bland — seasoned to perfection and the coleslaw was the perfect complimentary side dish.

The whole meal was nothing but delicious and it left me full and with leftovers to take home. Even though the place was packed, I was glad I stopped in because if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t even know about the fantastic food that I’d be missing.

Danna’s Bar-B-Que and Burger Shop is clearly a restaurant recommended by both locals and visitors alike, and for good reasons. So next time you’re in town, stop by for the most delicious BBQ you’ll ever have.
