Food Friday: Mel’s Hard Luck Diner

Hard Luck DinerMost of us have probably been to our fair share of diners, but none quite like this one.

Mel’s Hard Luck Diner, the home of Branson’s Original Singing Servers, is a 50’s themed diner with enthusiastic and friendly servers who also happen to be extremely talented. In fact, many of them either have been or are currently in some of Branson’s hottest shows including Magnificent 7 and Presleys’ Country Jubilee and two have even appeared on American Idol!

Hard Luck DinerIn fact, when I was first seated at my table in the dining room, I was a little unsure of what to expect. It looked like your average 50’s diner; an open kitchen, a dessert bar with stools, shiny checkered floors and framed photographs of Branson stars lining the walls. But average is definitely not the word I would use to describe the experience you get at this place.Hard Luck Diner

I was floored when I heard the first server start singing. I knew there were singing servers at this place, but I had no idea they were so great. The server’s name was Kelly and she was fantastic. So fantastic, that I forgot to look at the menu. TWICE. My server greeted me at my table soon after I was seated and returned to get my order, except I hadn’t even opened it yet because I was too interested in Kelly’s performance! I apologized and continued to take in the awesome entertainment until he returned the second time and I still wasn’t ready to order. I felt bad so I flipped open the menu and chose the first thing I saw: Chicken Fingers and fries. Again, your average diner food for a not-so-average place.

The menu is a variety of soups, sandwiches, salads, wraps, burgers and a whole page of special entrees. My meal was delicious, especially the French fries, and I would highly suggest getting a milkshake to accompany yours!

This diner provides such a fun way to spend a meal and when your server gets up to perform, you feel an odd sense of pride and will probably catch yourself cheering and applauding extra loud. I know I did!

When you go to Mel’s Hard Luck Diner, you should expect to get more than just a diner menu. Everyone who visits Branson should try this place at least once. You won’t be sorry!

  1. I’ve never heard of this place?! I like that the servers have been in actual Branson shows!! Look forward to trying it out.

  2. I’ve ate here before and been serenaded by my waiter! It was so fun. They don’t just have those that will sing to you, they have comedians, too!

  3. My son has been here and he doesn’t like to be embarrassed , so when they started singing to him, his face turned three shades of red, it was so funny. He didn’t know they sing.
